As I wait on the Lord, I put my hope in Him and His Word

Psalm 130 begins with a cry out from the pit for the Lord to hear, to listen attentively to the cries of the sinner. Reflection is made upon what it would look like and whether it would be able to stand if the Lord held all sins accountable -- too vast to contain. But that doesn't have to be because the Lord is faithful and just to forgiveand save us and bring glory unto Himself. We then are reminded that we are to wait upon the Lord and His hope for our lives. Wait even more intensely than does the night watchman eagerly await the first glimpse of the morning. We are reminded that our hope comes from the Lord and His Word. In them and His unfailing love we are granted full and complete redemption. What a wonderful thing! In this passage, the Hebrew words for the Lord are Yahweh (I Am Who I Am, covenant maker), Adonai (covenant keeper, master, ruler over all), and Ja (I AM. It makes this psalm even more meaningful. We must have faith that His Word is true and that means believing in more than just God's existence. We were reminded that even Satan and his evil forces believe in that. We must move more than that. We must belive that He is the I Am. The term, "I AM" has intrigued me for some time. It encompasses all the persons, names, attributes, characteristics, etc. of God because He is the All in All. In Psalm 139 we learned that there was no where that we could be that God wasn't there with us. Even in the lowest depths He is available. We know from scripture that God has blotted away our sins and they are as far from the east as is the west after we have called unto Him in repentance. Our continued reminders of past sin is not from God. We are allowing Satan to use that against us and the battle has already been won! Also it does not honor God. We can honor God by responding to His forgiveness in joy and happiness. We know scripture tells us the angels in heaven rejoice each time a sinner is saved--should ours be any less? Yes, we have full and complete redemption!!! We are now brought to be reminded of how hopeless we feel at times in our lives. Again Jeremiah 29:ll comes to bear. If you do not know this passage, take the time now to pick up your Bible and read it closely. That is a promise of hope! This I have waited upon and continue to do so and put my faith/trust/hope in this passage of God's Word. I have to fully expect God to fulfill this promise. I have to wait expectantly for its fulfillment. He will answer our cries when we call for repentance, He will show up, and when we put our hope in Him and His Word, we can KNOW that He will do as He says He will. He comes to us with His unfailing love, not condemnation. I had not looked as closely at the three verses after Jeremiah 29:11 but they are powerful and another reminder of our hope in Him. "You will call to Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you'--the Lord's declaration--'and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and places where I banished you'--the Lord's declaration.'I will restore you to the place I deported you from.'" (HCSB) WOW!!! I am so glad I was reminded of this passage. But even in our deliverance we are called on to share our experiences and thereby we give glory to God who delivered us. We know that from our experiences, both good and bad, that God can use them for His honor and glory. Do not chastise yourself anymore for bad choices/experiences, look at how you can use them to show others God's love and mercy. Our hope is in the Lord and His Word -- let's continue to wait with hope!

  1. Annette, you summed it up beautifully! I love this study. I have for a long time clung to the passage Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. And to see this Old
Testament Psalm saying we have hope in the full redemption/forgiveness/salvation from our sin, and its penalty, is further proof and the consistent Word from God of His unfailing love and abundant full redemption. Satan stops us from bringing hope to people or glory to God when he causes us to focus on our past sin; he steals our joy. This is not a license to sin but the freedom to move beyond the sin of our past to a life of joy, showing the healing we have received to give others hope for healing too, and cause us all to worship our Loving Redeemer! This is how we will see and continue to hope in that beautiful passage in Jeremiah 29:11 that His plans FOR us are plans for our welfare not for disaster and to give us a future and hope. May God be glorified and His people lifted up as we step up to the hope we are called to have in the Lord in all of our circumstances.
